The Intensive Care Unit beds have increased from Seven (7) in the old side of the hospital to 20 – 13 in the Trauma Centre. The service areas have quite increased from Eight (8) Theatres in the old portion of the hospital to 13 theatres, with the addition of three (3) theatres in the Trauma Centre, One (1) Emergency Obstetrics Theatre and a Theatre for Cardiothoracic Surgeries. The Anaesthetic Technicians have grown to eight in number and the Department is currently training Twelve (12) Technicians for the Hospital. The Department started with two well trained Anaesthestic Technicians. The work load has greatly increased from few surgeries at the inception to over 3,200 surgeries in a year. The number of Resident Doctors have grown from two to Twenty Eight (28).
The Department has gradually grown from one to two, to three Consultants to the present size of Seven (7) Consultants.
